DISCOVERY ISLAND INFORMATION

CHARACTERS

Characters are found roaming around the promenades on Discovery Island occasionally. However, the main place to find them is the Character Landing. This is across from Flame Tree Barbecue on the promenade to DinoLand U.S.A. Each day assorted characters take up residence here and you can wait in lines to see them. Check the daily times guide to find the exact schedules.

ENTRANCE

The main entrance to Discovery Island is the bridge from the Oasis. There are four other entrances to Discovery Island, the bridges from Africa, Asia, DinoLand U.S.A., and Pandora-The World of Avatar.

LAYOUT

The layout of Discovery Island at Animal Kingdom is like, well, an island. Discovery Island is a real island in the middle of Animal Kingdom. It is the centerpiece of the park. From Discovery Island, you access all other lands. You arrive on Discovery Island by crossing the bridge from the Oasis. Upon arrival, you will be right in front of the Tree of Life. The main promenade goes to the left and to the right from that intersection. To the right is the promenade to DinoLand U.S.A., Flame Tree Barbecue, and the entrance to It's Tough To Be A Bug.  To the left is Pizzafari and the promenade to Pandora-The World of Avatar. You reach the bridge to Asia by following the promenade to the right. You reach the bridge to Africa by following the promenade to the left. The Discovery Island Trails surround the Tree of Life and are accessible from multiple points on the main promenade.

RESTROOMS

There are two public restroom areas on Discovery Island at Disney's Animal Kingdom. One is located on the promenade just prior to crossing the bridge into Africa. The other is located on the opposite side of Discovery Island, across the promenade from Flame Tree Barbecue and just prior to crossing the bridge into DinoLand U.S.A.

TREE OF LIFE

The Tree of Life on Discovery Island in Animal Kingdom is the main symbol of the park. Iit is located centrally, on Discovery Island, and serves as a guide to guests throughout the park. If at all possible, take the time to look at the outside of the tree and the incredible craftsmanship that went into building it. Carved into the Tree of Life are over two hundred animal drawings. Inside the Tree of Life is the 3D Theater Show "It's Tough To Be A Bug."

The Tree of Life Garden is a beautiful display of tropical flowers and plants that partially surround the Tree of Life. The garden sits mostly to the front of the Tree of Life, adjacent to the Discovery Island Trails. This is a nice place to slow down from the hustle to rides and just enjoy the beauty of nature.
